Antibodies to Drugs of Abuse

Drugs of abuse are a pervasive societal and public health problem, and numerous institutions, including law enforcement agencies, employers, hospitals, educational institutions and competitive sports organizations require robust, sensitive, and reproducible assays to test for drugs of abuse in body fluids such as blood and urine. Drug testing is preferably done on site using simple kits rather than complex instrumentation. Antibodies to drugs of abuse or their metabolites are the ideal tool for these kind of assays, as they can be used on unfractionated serum or urine specimens in very simple ELISA-type formats.

While many proven antibody reagents are available for common drugs of abuse such as cocaine, novel designer drugs and specifically the ever evolving illicit performance enhancers used by many professional athletes require always new antibody reagents and assay protocols.
